Painted Folk Art Bridal Cupboard 1794

Exceptionally decorative bridal cabinet from 1794. This cabinet in original paint has a rustic look and shows plenty of character. The cabinet is in very neat condition for its age with only minor signs of use. The cabinet is painted in a dark grey-blue colour and has religious and floral decorations in the painted panels. The lower panels are decorated with the tree of life, growing from the chalice of the water of life. Core motif for folk art from that time. The cabinet has a well-functioning lock with key and is fitted with shelves on the inside. In the past, it was customary to give bridal furniture like this as a gift to the couple at a wedding. These pieces of furniture were later placed in a state room on the farm that was only rarely used for high-ranking visitors or special occasions.
