This solid pine sideboard stands out for its generous scale and its two front doors with framed panels featuring a scalloped profile. The lower belt echoes the same wavy work as the doors. China, circa 1950. The large living room sideboard served as the central storage unit in homes in northern China: tablecloths, crockery, household linen. The shape—two doors on a wavy belt, with no visible feet—reflects the late Qing tradition maintained by rural carpentry throughout the first half of the 20th century. The construction is entirely handcrafted: solid pine for the structure, fronts, and sides, mortise and tenon joints, floating panels in a frame to absorb the movements of the wood. The top is made from a continuous board with slightly beveled edges. Details. Materials and techniques: Solid pine; wrought iron hardware; mortise and tenon joints. Place of origin: China. Period: Late Qing tradition. Date of manufacture: Circa 1950. Dimensions: Length 157 cm × Depth 40 cm × Height 94 cm. Condition: Good. Wear consistent with age and use.
