This antique low buffet made of pine wood, with two solid doors and a washed patina, is a domestic piece from north-west China dating to around 1930. It does not retain a manufacturer's label and is described by typology and region. Buffets from Gansu, along the ancient Silk Road, maintained the simple structure of domestic furniture from the north-west: a generous body on a cut apron, solid doors with rings. As central pieces of the living room, they housed bedding, crockery, and family belongings. The frame is assembled using blind mortise and tenon joints. The top surface consists of wide pine boards joined edge-to-edge, framed by perimeter ribs. The two solid doors pivot on wooden axes and close with original wrought iron rings. A simple apron completes the façade. Details. Materials and techniques: Solid pine wood; mortise and tenon joints; solid doors with wrought iron rings. Place of origin: Gansu (China) Period: Republican period. Date of manufacture: Circa 1930. Dimensions: Length 148 cm – Depth 40 cm – Height 85 cm. Condition: Good. Natural patina and wear consistent with age and use. May show signs of use.
