This antique pine wood sideboard features two doors with a profiled perimeter frame and a central reserved top on each. It originates from northern China, dating from the late Qing dynasty, where pine was crafted using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Northern Chinese domestic furniture maintained stable typologies throughout the Qing dynasty and the early Republic: compact sideboards with two doors, solid sides, and a simple low rail. The variant without added paint or lacquer—only wood and hardware—belongs to the more understated vernacular register, where expression relies entirely on the natural grain of the pine. The body is constructed from solid pine. The front consists of two identical doors with a profiled perimeter frame and a central reserved top. Below the doors, a low rail completes the composition. The hardware consists of circular wrought iron handles fixed with visible rivets. The joinery is traditional Chinese mortise and tenon, without screws. The patina retains a light, faded tone, characteristic of pine exposed to continuous use and natural light. The most exposed areas—upper edges, corners, and the perimeter of the doors—have acquired a warmer tone through wear. The surface of the top shows the natural grain pattern with small longitudinal splits and the knots of the pine clearly visible. Details. Dimensions: Length 125 cm – Depth 40 cm – Height 88 cm.
