Oil on canvas with an ancient gilded frame - Italian school from the early 18th century. The relining was done with a wooden lamp and shows no pictorial restoration. This old oil painting represents Our Lady of Sorrows, framed in a rich gilded frame. At the center of the scene is the Virgin Mary, wrapped in a traditional blue-green cloak over a red dress. The figure is captured in a moment of deep emotion and sorrow linked to the Passion of Christ. Symbol of the sword: a small sword pierces the Virgin's chest, a clear iconographic reference to Simeon's prophecy in the Gospel of Luke ('And a sword will pierce through your own soul'), defining the figure of the Mater Dolorosa. On the left, a winged cherub is visible in prayer, while on the right, two angels or angelic figures appear, a decor that recalls the devotional production of Emilian or Bolognese painting between the 17th and 18th centuries. Characteristics of the painting: This painting presents the typical signs of aging in old paintings, with slight surface cracking.
