Oil painting on canvas. Lombard school of the 17th century. The large scene features the seated Madonna at the centre, offering her breast to the Child Jesus, who, on the contrary, reaches out to try to pick a fruit from the basket that Saint John holds for him, standing beneath them; around them are five figures of saints, identifiable by their iconographic attributes. From left to right: Saint Paul, holding a sword, Saint Anne, affectionately watching over her daughter and grandson, Saint Peter holding the keys to the Kingdom, Saint Joseph with his staff and a carpenter's tool at his waist, and finally, far right, Saint Charles Borromeo, whose presence in the work supports the Lombard patron. The painting also comes from the private collection of a Lombard family, of which it has been a part since the 19th century. The work is still on its original canvas and with its original frame; on the back, it shows some small pieces and traces of previous restorations. It is presented in a frame from the late 19th century.
