Antique polychrome wooden wardrobe, of popular art from Central Europe, with the date 1781 painted on the cornice frieze next to the name "Iacob Hofers." It features two doors and a cut-out base. In Alpine and Central Europe, painted wardrobes were often commissioned for weddings or inheritances and marked with the owner's name and the year. Here, the frieze bears the inscription "17 IACOB HOFERS 81, " painted in black on a light background. Each door has two panels framed in red, with a red and green four-lobed floral motif on a veined background. The sides feature a simpler panel, and the base is cut into scrolls with red contours on four feet. The hardware is made of wrought iron, with a key lock and visible hinges. The interior retains two shelves and small drawers, one of which has geometric incisions on its front, as well as a bolt lock on the door. The dark, warm surface shows traces of centuries of use. It functions as a wardrobe in a bedroom or entryway, or as a central piece in a rural-style room. Details. Dimensions: Length 101 cm – Depth 59 cm – Height 156 cm. Style: Popular art.
