Large trunk chest in solid wood, French rustic style: Exposed wood: oak or chestnut, dense grain. Carved front — scalloped outline and openwork base with a curved moulding (characteristic curve, signature of careful regional craftsmanship, from the North/Picardy or Normandy region) Wood stained reddish-brown, with an old natural patina. Visible central hardware — diamond-shaped wrought iron keyhole or decorative hinge and original wrought iron ring handle, typical of 18th-19th century chests. Short sculpted console feet with mouldings — careful gouge work, authentic. Flat lid used here as a serving table/console. Corners joined with visible dovetails — traditional cabinetmaking technique, no modern nails. Back panels in solid pine with visible knots. Visible woodworm galleries (significant and old infestation). Dimensions: 130x45x55 cm. Louis XIII / regional rustic style — Normandy, Brittany or Burgundy. Estimated period: late 19th – early 20th century, possibly older. The scalloped base is a strong regional marker (notably Normandy) Functional and decorative furniture — ideal for country house decor.
