Ancient painting of the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus, 16th century.

Oil on walnut panel. The painting follows Tuscan models from the early 16th century (for example, the pictorial style of Domenico Puligo), but it is a slightly later production and from a weaker hand, typical of a "peripheral" production. The subject, absolutely traditional, represents the Madonna nursing the Child Jesus, framed by a curtain; the child, suckling at his mother's breast, looks towards the viewer, while the mother gazes tenderly at her son. The monogram CP appears on the back of the panel, likely indicating the artist. The panel shows several small losses of paint.
