Oil on canvas. The Virgin holds her Child, lying on a cushion and asleep. Mary looks at the viewer, almost as if she is showcasing her Son, with a serious expression, aware of his destiny, of which the child, however, seems completely unaware, still just a child, and not the Son of God. The physiognomic features of the two figures are also distinctive, particularly Mary's round and full face, her upturned nose, her round eyes, and her rather ungraceful silhouette, very different from more traditional representations of the Madonna. In the top left, there are a few letters of an inscription that appear to have been cut off. The painting has been restored and re-canvas-mounted in the past. It is presented in a period frame.
