Jean Dubuffet, born on 31 July 1901 in Le Havre and died on 12 May 1985 in Paris 6th, was a French painter, sculptor, and visual artist, the first theorist of an art style he named "art brut," consisting of works by outsiders or mentally ill individuals: paintings, sculptures, calligraphies, from which he acknowledged having drawn significant inspiration himself.
