We are delighted to offer at auction this exceptionally rare mahogany crescent buffet, dating from around 1760, from the Thomas Chippendale period, originating from the former home of the Duke of Wellington, Athelhampton House, in the billiard room. This is a rare and significant find, never before seen of such scale and crescent shape. Specifically designed for Athelhampton House, a Grade I listed Tudor manor house from the 15th century, famous in the works of Thomas Hardy. The dimensions of the buffet are: height 87 cm, width 272.5 cm, depth 109.5 cm. The piece retains its original unrestored patina with chips and signs of wear corresponding to its nearly 260 years. Several original keys are present, but the locks are currently not functioning. This piece is available for collection in Wimbledon, SW19-3BE. It can be restored to showroom condition upon request for an additional cost.
