J. Wilson. English ( fl.1837 - 1870 ). Looe town & harbour, cornwall. Watercolour. Monogramed. Image size 6.5 inches X 10.4 inches ( 16.5cm X 26.5cm ). Frame size 12.6 inches X 16.7 inches ( 32cm X 42.5cm ). Available for sale is this original painting by j. Wilson which dates from around 1860. From exhibition entries and other dated works we know the artist was active from 1837 to 1870. The watercolour is presented and supplied in a sympathetic contemporary frame (which is shown in these photographs), mounted using conservation materials and behind non-reflective tru vue ultravue® uv70 glass. This antique painting is in very good condition, commensurate with its age. It wants for nothing and is ready to hang and display. The watercolour is monogramed lower left. A provincial artist that worked both watercolor and in oils. Active throughout the early and middle reign of queen victoria. A painter of landscapes, seascapes and portraits. A journeyman artist that produced work from cornwall to scotland and from the mainland continent. A body of work exists in cornwall and the west country of england with examples of his early portraiture held in the helston folk museum, cornwall.
