Pair of antique still lifes – Oils on canvas signed Roydel – €460 (Negotiable) The Artist: Roydel, a painter of the French school (late 19th / early 20th century) is an artist specialised in still lifes of autumn fruits, identifiable by his very graphic stylised signature. Description of the works: This set forms a coherent pictorial pair. Classic technique inspired by Dutch masters, playing on a dark background in chiaroscuro to highlight the volumes and textures of the foreground. * Left painting: Composition featuring a ceramic bowl filled with black grapes, subtly hued pears, and a terracotta jug with a glazed finish. * Right painting: Composition centred on a cut melon (detail of the seeds painted with precision), surrounded by fuzzy peaches, plums, white grapes, and a green blown glass jar with a fabric lid. The Frames: Period frames in gilded wood and stucco in Regency style. Characteristics and Dimensions: * Technique: Original oil on canvas (on key-stretcher frames). * Dimensions with frame: 60 X 51.5 cm. * Dimensions of the canvases: 46 X 38.5 cm (Standard format 8F) Condition: Good used condition. Healthy paint layer with stabilised age cracks. Excellent tension of the canvases. The stucco frames show wear and losses of gilding.
