Jules félix ragot (1835-1912) “still life with fruit”. Famous french artist. Oil on canvas. France-belgium. Nineteenth century. 73x92 cm. Jules félix ragot, born in paris in 1835, is an exceptional french artist, whose creative journey left an indelible mark on the 19th century art scene. Guided by the teachings of established masters jean murat and françois-edouard picot, ragot began a career that demonstrated his exceptional talent and commitment to the traditional realist movement with a touch of post-impressionist influence. Ragot's debut at the salon of 1867 marked the start of a prolific career characterized primarily by his mastery of portraiture and genre painting, with a particular love of still lifes decorated with vibrant flowers. His artistic philosophy includes realism, emphasizing the faithful representation of the subject while avoiding artificiality and avoiding speculative or supernatural elements. Although ragot's work did not conform to impressionism's emphasis on spontaneous, naturalistic renderings of light and color, it was widely recognized. He gained considerable fame in belgium, where he served as tutor to queen marie-henriette. His reputation extended to the royal court: king leopold II acquired several of his remarkable works. The famous art critic joris-karl huysmans, an important voice of the time, praised ragot's contribution. The artistic legacy of ragot, who worked in saint-gilles, has become an integral part of belgium's cultural heritage. His work, now considered a cultural blessing for all, continues to be celebrated for its realistic depictions and artistic grace. Jules felix ragot died in brussels in 1912 at the age of 77, leaving behind a rich list of artistic achievements that still resonate with fans today.
