West german pottery comes in extremely distinctive shapes, styles and colors that are unique to this period of production. Probably the most famous of these looks is the incomparable fat lava style. Founded in 1928 by alois scheurich, the company began with a wholesale trade for glass, porcelain and ceramics. Ceramic production began later, in the fifties. Scheurich then became one of the largest ceramic manufacturers in germany from 1950 to 1980. The family business has developed well. Scheurich is now the european market leader for indoor pots and accessories for plants and flowers.
