Antique Folk Art Painted bridal chest

Primitive decorated / painted bridal chest from Germany, this is an unusual model with a domed lid and soft pink colour. The chest has beautifully painted panels with flowers. This characteristic piece shows some old repairs and wear to the original paint, especially on the lid. In the past, it was customary to give bridal furniture like this as a gift to the couple at a wedding. These pieces of furniture were later placed on the farm in a show room that was only rarely used for important visitors or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history. The dating is in the second half of the 19th century.
