Antique Folk Art Painted bridal chest

Exceptional painted bridal chest from southern Germany, specifically from Thalmaessing in Middle Franconia. This chest is special not only because of its highly decorative painting, but also because of its square shape and flat lid. This makes it extremely suitable for use as a coffee table. The original paint dates from the late 18th century and is, of course, quite worn over the years. It was customary in the past to give bridal furniture like this as a wedding gift to the couple. These pieces were later placed on the farm in a show room that was only rarely used for important guests or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history.
