Solid silver tray signed Sazikov Russian wedding platter from 1868 Here is a true antique from a bygone era! Coming from the goldsmithing of 19th century Russia, this solid silver wedding tray is a creation of the Sazikov goldsmith workshops, founded in 1810 by Ignace Sazikov during the Russian Empire and renowned for its works in silver, gold and precious stones. The design of the works offered by the Sazikov workshops contributed to the development of the Neo-Russian style at the Imperial court. Hallmarked for the year 1868, it was in this same year that Ignace transferred the company to his sons Pavel and Sergei, who succeeded their father in the Moscow business (whose hallmark of Saint-Michel represents the city), while the third son, Valentin, succeeded to the Saint Petersburg branch (the hallmark of two crossed axes representing the city). The square hallmark 84 is the hallmark of solid silver during 19th century Russia, it indicates a content of 84 zolotniks, or approximately 875/1000 pure silver, corresponding to solid silver. This rare shaped piece is in very good general condition, slight wear from use is present on the surface of the tray (micro-scratches) but this remains minimal. Its composition in solid silver and its hallmarks proving its belonging to the Sazikov goldsmith workshops of 1868 are exceptional and make it a truly rare collector's item, which could be offered to a young married couple, the central decoration of this tray is a figurative Russian poetry: the birds and their foliage represent the fertility, abundance and prosperity of a couple, perfect for a groom's gift as Russian tradition requires.
