Set of two tripod stools in solid elm, France 1960s.
A magnificent set of two stools made of solid elm, originating from France and dating from the 1960s. With a simple construction but great sculptural richness, each stool consists of a generously sized circular seat supported by three slightly flared legs. The thick seats feature rounded edges and a subtly carved surface, giving the stools an organic and tactile quality. The three rounded legs are particularly expressive, tapering slightly towards their soft ends and creating a robust, almost primitive silhouette. Entirely made of solid elm, the stools showcase a rich variation of grain on the seats, with warm brown tones and a deep natural patina, the result of several decades of use. Small marks and surface variations add to their authentic vintage character. Their understated construction and harmonious proportions are characteristic of French vernacular furniture of the time. Compact yet full of presence, they can be used as extra seating, bedside tables, or as sculptural objects in an interior. The two stools have remained together and are offered as a set.
