Antique rustic chest painted red, elongated rectangular shape with a flat lid hinged on forged hinges, featuring side handles carved from the block and painted numbering on the front. Originating from Central Europe, from the second half of the 19th century, when polychrome chests were part of the peasant trousseau and served as a marriage chest, transport box, and makeshift bench. The painted chest of popular tradition accompanied rural life in Central Europe throughout the 19th century. Three functions coexisted in a single piece: to store linen and household trousseau, to transport belongings during moves or fairs, and to serve as seating at the foot of the bed or near the table. The painted numbering on the front — here "21 51" or similar — marked lot, parish, or family inventory. Details. Dimensions: Length 108 cm – Depth 34 cm – Height 34 cm.
