Cees Braakman for Pastoe FM07 Japanese Series - new upholstery

The Pastoe FM07 armchair is a uniquely designed Dutch design armchair from the late 1950s, designed by Cees Braakman for Pastoe. The FM07 is part of the characteristic Japanese series, in which Braakman combines post-war modernist forms with the tranquility, simplicity and clear proportions that are characteristic of Japanese design. The design stands out due to the interplay between the slender black metal frame and the generous, geometrically shaped upholstery. The straight lines of the base contrast beautifully with the wide armrests, the comfortable seat and the loosely styled backrest. A design in which construction and design reinforce each other and which shows an interesting silhouette from every angle. This FM07 has been reupholstered in a high-quality wool mix from Oniro, executed in two warm colour tones. The combination gives the armchair extra depth and a refined appearance, while the rich texture of the fabric nicely connects with the original character of the design. In the restoration, it was consciously chosen not to repaint the original metal frame. The existing finish has been preserved, including the subtle traces of time. This way, the history of the furniture remains visible and the authenticity of this vintage armchair is respected. The FM07 is a beautiful example of progressive Dutch furniture design from the 1950s.
