In the 1960s, Dutch design explored a warm modernism, where the rigour of lines is balanced by the quality of materials. This lounge chair is a particularly accurate illustration of this. Attributed to Gijs van der Sluis, it combines a black-stained wooden frame with solid wood armrests in warmer, subtly satin-finished tones. The architecture is straightforward: straight legs, marked horizontal lines, and low, welcoming proportions. The seat and backrest, generously padded, are covered in a textured grey fabric that highlights the overall sobriety. The condition is very satisfactory. The fabric holds up well, with slight signs of use consistent with its age. The structure is stable; a few discreet marks on the wood attest to its authenticity without detracting from its elegance. Its dimensions — 71 cm in height, 69 cm in width, and 67 cm in depth — make it a comfortable chair, ideal for a living room, office, or reading space. A balanced piece, representative of 1960s Dutch modernism, with a discreet yet assertive presence.
