Important Louis XV wedding armoire in walnut and burl – Rhône Valley – 18th century. Remarkable wedding armoire from the Louis XV period, made of walnut and richly decorated with burl panels, featuring a strongly shaped and sculpted façade. It opens with two large doors divided into curved panels, whose reserves beautifully highlight the particularly expressive grain of the burl. The sculpted decoration combines shells, foliage, scrolls, and rocaille motifs characteristic of the Louis XV repertoire. The upper crosspiece, in a gendarme hat shape, is centred with a significant sculpted shell surrounded by foliage. The doors are separated by a powerful fluted central post. The lower crosspiece, also curved and sculpted, rests on small scroll feet. The side posts also showcase beautiful sculptural work. The sides are panelled, reflecting careful traditional construction. An interesting feature is that the armoire retains an old handwritten document on the back detailing its origin and family history, indicating a provenance from the L'Arbresle region / Rhône Valley and mentioning a transmission within the family. This document serves as a valuable testimony to the piece's provenance. A regionally significant armoire, remarkable for the richness of its façade, the beauty of its woods, and its documented history. Period: 18th century. Style: Louis XV Origin: Rhône Valley. Material: walnut and walnut burl. Condition consistent with its age, with old restorations, marks, splits, and natural wear. Period provenance document preserved on the back of a door.
