Nude study by maurice de bus, a french artist primarily known for his work as a sculptor. The drawing, executed in charcoal, captures the silhouette in a reflective and introspective posture. The work, signed and dated "de bus 1959" lower right. Laminated on thick paper, the drawing measures 50 cm by 59 cm including margins (30 X 40 cm excluding visual margins). Maurice de bus (1907-1963) studied at the école nationale supérieure des beaux-arts and won the prestigious prix de rome in sculpture in 1937. He lived at the villa medici from 1938 to 1939 and also designed pieces of coin for the paris mint. This drawing is a striking example of his talent and ability to capture human emotion through expressive and dynamic lines.
