Tobia Scarpa, the Italian duo Afra and Tobia
Tobia Scarpa (born 1935), son of the great architect Carlo Scarpa, forms with his wife Afra Bianchin one of the most brilliant Italian designer duos of the 20th century. A graduate of the IUAV in Venice, he signed with Afra for B&B Italia, Cassina, Knoll, Flos and Maxalto some of the most recognised pieces of modern Italian design: Soriana sofa (1969), Foglio lamp (1966), Bastone lamp, Coronado armchair. A design where every object seems to arise from obvious logic, but always hides technical virtuosity.
The Soriana sofa from Cassina, the Foglio lamp from Flos and the Coronado armchair remain the most iconic pieces of the duo Afra and Tobia Scarpa. Italian vintage design to find for those wanting a historic signature from Milanese post-war design.
