Willy Guhl, the garden chair that entered the MoMA
Willy Guhl (1915-2004) is one of the most influential Swiss designers of the 20th century. For thirty years, he taught at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich, training an entire generation of Swiss designers. But his name is above all attached to one piece: the Loop chair (1954), a seat folded from a single sheet of Eternit (fibrocement), as minimal as it is obvious. A garden chair that also entered the MoMA. Striking proof that great design sometimes holds in a single gesture.
The Loop chair and Willy Guhl planters in fibrocement, edited by Eternit, have become absolute references of Swiss design. A vintage outdoor furniture piece to find for those wanting a simple, robust, historic classic.
