Attention, rare piece! Great dressing table in rosewood and ornaments of gold of time bronze Napoleon III dating Middle XIX signed Jean Pierre TAHAN, Napoleon III's cabinetmaker, decorated with marquetry of porcelain of Julien-Nicolas RIVART, who invented this process. This piece of furniture was made between 1850 and 1867. Tahan had several furniture decorated with marquetry of Julien-Nicolas Rivart porcelain. This is the inventor of the technique of marquetry of porcelain, a unique process, extensively researched and patented in 1849, he was then the only one to master. The table we present here is thus a rare example of the happy Tahan provision for the "Rivart process". This clever artist succeeded the aesthetic synthesis of the florentine inlaid hard stones and decoration in the 18th century porcelain plates. It thus combines the lightness of marquetry and effects sought contrasts with the grace of the painting on porcelain. Marquetry invented by Rivart allows hues sought to contrast directly with the wood without hiding the veins and the beautiful work of the cabinetmaker. That is why, at the universal exhibition of 1851, 1855 and 1867, this technique is qualified of "delicious proceeded", 'still more beautiful than beautiful', and receives the compliments of the Emperor Napoleon III. The varnish has been cleaned.
