18th-Century Piedmontese Farmhouse Table in Fir and Chestnut
A large farmhouse table from the Upper Piedmont region of Italy, dating from the 18th century. The top is made of fir, with poplar boards and chestnut legs. Its surface preserves traces of a fascinating working life: a section once protected by an iron sheet, marks left by tools, and evidence of a later use as a saddler’s workbench, where leather, metal fittings and heated glue were handled. Two hand-carved initials remain visible along the edge, one still crisp and the other softened by centuries of use. Conservatively restored to preserve its original character, patina and signs of age rather than erase them. A distinctive piece of Italian rural furniture, rich in history and character. Dimensions: 239 × 89 × 78 cm.
