Nude study, preparatory drawing, produced by maurice de bus, a french artist mainly known for his work as a sculptor. The drawing, executed in a variation of charcoal tones, captures the silhouette in a reflective and introspective posture and shows the sketching work and gesture of the artist. The work, signed "debus" lower left (under the ankle) was executed on thick paper. The drawing measures 50 cm by 60 cm. Maurice de bus (1907-1963) studied at the national school of fine arts and won the prestigious rome prize in sculpture in 1937. He lived at the villa medici from 1938 to 1939 and also designed pieces of currency for paris currency. This drawing is a striking example of his talent and ability to capture human emotion through expressive and dynamic lines.
