The Aluminum Chair is one of the most significant furniture designs of the 20th century. It was originally created for a private home in Columbus (Indiana, USA), built by architects Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard in the mid-1950s. Charles and Ray Eames chose a new approach to the structure of the chair. Instead of using the then widespread shell principle, they positioned a sheet of fabric or leather between two aluminum sides, leaving it taut, but with a cushioning effect. The napkin adapts to the body and offers great comfort even without sophisticated padding. The shape of the Aluminum Chair is clean and transparent, the structure clearly visible. The model presented in this auction is in the version in chromed aluminum and burgundy red Hopsak fabric, produced by ICF in the 90s. The chair was recovered from an office meeting room and is in good working order. The chromed structure is shiny and without particular signs of use. The fabric upholstery is intact with some slight signs of use. The wheels are free, the rotation is active. The chair has been carefully cleaned, disinfected and the frame polished. ICF production labels on the body.
