Description
Pair of fireplace andirons, bronze and cast iron andirons, dragons, chimeras, griffins, fireplace accessories, fireplace hearth, decor, andirons poitevine legend: the beast, described as a monstrous dragon, would have lived at the time of sainte radegonde, therefore in the 6th century of our era. She lived at the bottom of the clain, and, when the waters rose, entered the labyrinthine cellars which crossed the poitevin soil. She often came to the cellars of the sainte-croix abbey, and devoured all the unfortunate nuns who ventured there. Eager to put an end to the beast, radegonde armed herself with a small cross, then with holy water, and, once face to face with the beast, sprinkled it, said a prayer, and the beast disappeared into excruciating suffering.
