Gio Ponti Superleggera Chair

Superleggera chair (= very light), model 699. Gio Ponti, edition attributed to Cassina. An icon of modern design, and one of the most famous designs of this Italian master. Its name expresses the Milanese architect's desire to create the lightest chair possible. It took him years to perfect, reducing the triangular section of the legs to only 18 millimeters to reach the actual minimum weight of only 1,700 grams. The result is amazing; so light and yet so strong and comfortable. And on top of that, the chair is also very elegant. A true masterpiece. The chair has a solid black lacquered ash frame (still the original paint) and a renewed paper thread seat. This is a first edition and is unmarked. The chair is in very good condition. Normal wear on the frame.
