The sober composition, neutral background, and attention to the rendering of the fabrics place this work within the French tradition of aristocratic portraiture from the late 18th to the early 19th century. A handwritten inscription on the back of the frame indicates: "Marquise de Saint-Germain, sister of Jacques de la Barr de Vessières, Marquise de Larriveau." The painting has been restored. It shows a network of cracks that testify to its age. The frame has been reinforced. The painting is presented in a gilded frame showing some signs of wear. Dimensions of the canvas: 81 × 60 cm. Dimensions of the frame: 90 × 68 cm.
