Adorable commode in superb condition. With its marble top.

Magnificent small commode in veneered wood, fully inlaid and topped with a finely crafted marble. Transitional style. It rests on four curved feet, two of which are fitted with gilded bronze, and features two discreet bronzes on the upper cut corners. It opens with two beautiful drawers equipped with gilded pull handles. The first drawer, inlaid with three-dimensional cubes, comes with its original lock and key, both perfectly functional. The lock entry with its small ribbon is typically Louis XVI style. The lower drawer, which forms the lower apron, does not lock but slides perfectly. Meticulously crafted on all sides (except the back), it is topped with a breccia marble in vibrant colours. There is a small chip on the edge (more due to the stone itself than wear). The original patina is splendid and the gilding is intact. This piece could be associated with work from Faubourg St Antoine in Paris, but an evocative transport label (stamped with a heart) seems to indicate that it was transported from the Province to Paris via Albi.
