Painted Folk Art Bridal Cabinet 1846

An extraordinary antique pine bridal cabinet dating from 1846. This cabinet is simply designed but beautifully painted with floral ornamentation on the panels, while the rest of the cabinet is finished with a decorative wood motif. The wedding date and the initials of the previous owner are painted above the doors. Considering its age, this example is still in good condition; aside from a few signs of old woodworm (which have naturally been treated), there are few notable signs. The interior has three shelves. The cabinet still has its original, working lock and key. It was once customary to give bridal furniture like this to the couple at a wedding. These pieces were later placed in a state room on the farm, rarely used for distinguished guests or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history.
