Description
Roger capron (1922–2006) Empty ceramic pocket of rectangular shape, with colorful decoration on a white background. Signed on the reverse in black capron in capital letters. Roger capron was born in september 1922 in vincennes, île-de-france. Initially interested in drawing, he decided to study this discipline at the école des arts appliqués in paris between 1938 and 1943 before teaching it two years later, still in the same institution. The same year, roger capron discovered ceramics and now cultivates a real passion for this activity. He decided to give up his role as a teacher and moved to vallauris, in the south of france, to found the ceramic workshop "atelier callis" alongside robert picault and jean derval. The three creators will thus take advantage of the post-war period, a real opportunity for renewal for the city of vallauris which welcomes at the time many artists wishing to work with old materials and technique. At the beginning of his career, roger capron mainly designed small, modest objects for the home, originally designed for everyday use. At the time, the aesthetics of his creations were characterized by undulating lines and expressionist motifs. And for good reason, roger capron is a fervent supporter of free forms. Although he then worked on several styles, he kept this line of conduct for several years.
