Vase made of faience from the Kupittaan Savi factory in Turku (Åbo), Finland, entirely hand-painted. Its ovoid body rises to a flared trumpet neck, covered with a brown glaze that has a granular, almost mineral texture, contrasting with the softness of the cream background. The shoulder is encircled with fine turned ribs under an ochre yellow glaze, framed by cobalt blue bands. The decoration consists of stylised branches: stems bearing half-blue, half-mole leaves, springing from two large orange leaves with a blue zigzag centre, punctuated by small dot motifs. A graphic and cheerful design, typical of Finnish ceramics from the interwar period and mid-century. The inside of the neck is animated with brown brush strokes. Alongside Arabia, Kupittaan Savi was one of the major Finnish ceramic houses, renowned for this free and bold decoration. Provenance: lot from a Swedish auction, catalogued as early 20th century. Condition: very good vintage condition. Fine network of crazing in the glaze under the base, small original glaze run at the foot and slight wear on the edge of the foot, related to manufacturing and age. No cracks or restorations noted.
