Hand-painted earthenware vase, produced by Kupittaan Savi. This factory in Turku marked Finnish decorative ceramics from 1918 to the late 1960s. Three stylised dove-grey tulips surround the ovoid body. They are painted with a quick and confident brush, featuring ribbed hearts highlighted in brown and dark brown bulbs. Fine brown tendrils freely snake between the flowers. Rust, ochre, and amber bands rhythmically adorn the flared neck, lip, and base. The cream glaze displays the slight natural speckling characteristic of Kupittaan clay. At that time, each piece was hand-decorated, making every vase unique. The underside bears the painter-decorator's monogram "R." painted under the glaze. A warm and graphic Scandinavian piece, perfect to stand alone on a shelf or to be paired with other Nordic ceramics.
