This Model Superellipse table was designed by Piet Hein and Bruno Mathsson for the Danish furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen during the 1960s. The example offered here was manufactured in the 1980s. The design is one of the most distinctive examples of Scandinavian modernism, combining a minimalist form with a light and functional construction. The table is distinguished by its characteristic superelliptical tabletop – a shape combining the qualities of a rectangle and an oval, without sharp corners. The tabletop is crafted from oak wood, with its natural grain clearly visible. The table is supported by distinctive slender metal legs, which give the large tabletop a sense of visual lightness. Their minimalist construction is one of the most recognizable features of the Superellipse series. The table has undergone comprehensive professional restoration. The tabletop was stripped of the old coating, stained in an oak colour, and finished with a durable high-quality semi-matt lacquer, which protects the surface while enhancing the natural grain of the wood. The metal elements were carefully cleaned and polished. Its timeless form and generous tabletop make the table ideal for use both as a dining table and as a conference table in modern or classic interiors.
