The faience of saint-jean de bretagne does not go unnoticed! It is in brittany in the morbihan, in the commune of saint-jean la poterie that these earthenware were produced from 1951, benefiting from the centuries-old heritage of working the pottery land. It was indeed from 1420 that a community of potters settled on this territory and developed its talents by producing pottery essentially utilitarian such as milk pots, cider or honey pots, squires, soup pots, ... In 1881, there were up to 25 master potters installed in saint john. It was at the beginning of the twentieth century that activity declined until the almost total disappearance of potters during the events of the first world war. It was in 1951 that the faïencerie de st-jean de bretagne opened, then with up to 80 employees benefiting from modern working conditions with oil ovens for example. The decorators make up more than half of the staff and all the decorations are made by hand, as evidenced by the signatures and inscriptions on the reverse of each of the pieces.
