The two saints Athanasius and Cyril are often depicted together in religious art, particularly in Byzantine icons and works celebrating the Doctors of the Church, as both, bishops of Alexandria, defended certain dogmas of the faith against Arianism. There is damage to the wood of the panel and small losses of paint.
