Always a prestigious provenance for this Restoration-style library cabinet (early 20th century) crafted to the highest standards in striking flame mahogany veneer. It bears the blue, white, and red label inside, with the somewhat magical words: PROPERTY OF THE STATE, and the mentions Prime Minister (thus Matignon), Liberty, Equality, Fraternity... In its understated sovereignty, it stands tall before us, confident in its charisma and power. It opens with two glass doors featuring superb lower veneers. Note that the key on the left door is a trompe l'oeil and serves as a handle! The one on the right (added) operates a two-point lock entirely concealed behind a small wooden box on the back, which works very well. The finesse of the lock entries is noteworthy. The uprights are flat, accented at the top and bottom with gilded bronze that stands out dramatically against the darker mahogany. The beautiful cornice, as straight as justice (of the Republic, of course), reinforces the presence of this piece. The feet are also clad in bronze. Inside, four original solid wood shelves are positioned on small brass feet that offer three possible heights for each shelf. This is the original mechanism. The cabinet, assembled with screws, can be completely disassembled if necessary. It is, therefore, a piece of very high quality. It has retained a few minor scars from its long years of service, mainly small chips in the varnish (at the bottom of the right side, along the cornice, and other scratches, particularly around the locks, see photos). Nevertheless, it remains in very good overall condition, perfectly solid, healthy, and usable as is in an office, living room, or bedroom. H: 185.5 cm. W: 120 cm. D: 46 cm (overall). Firm price, thank you. Delivery + assembly in Île-de-France for 40 euros.
