Peltrato Jewelry Box in Neo-Renaissance Style

Period: ca. 1900-1940 this pewter jewelry box is from the old italian company peltrato (peltro being the italian word for pewter). The very ornate decorations feature numerous renaissance and baroque style motifs such as scrolls and cartouches. Four cherub heads in high relief adorn the corners. The interior is lined with red velvet and a gold-colored finishing ribbon. The key is present and the lock works. This box is very heavy. Condition: good. No damage. The interior ribbon is a little frayed. There are some oxidation marks on the underside of the edge and on the hinges on the back (so practically invisible). Dimensions: 23 cm wide at the feet, 16.5 cm deep, 18.2 cm high without handle, 2.7 kg.
