Candle holder KRÄSEN – Ehlén Johansson for IKEA, 1987 – Scandinavian design
Rare and unique candlestick from the KRÄSEN collection, imagined in 1987 by Swedish designer Ehlén Johansson for IKEA. This iconic creation from the formal explorations of the late 1980s boldly combines the nobility of natural stone with the lightness of a sculptural metal structure. Its cubic base made of black dolerite (black granite) supports a fine iron rod that forms an elegant spiral, topped with a brass dish. A particularly successful play of contrasts between raw material, graphic lines, and golden details. The KRÄSEN collection originally consisted of three candlesticks with distinct shapes: spiral, zigzag, and loop. It was part of the experimental IKEA Tomorrow program, dedicated to contemporary design proposals. A true piece of vintage Scandinavian design, equally interesting as a sculptural object and as a candlestick. It will naturally find its place in a contemporary, minimalist, postmodern, or eclectic interior.
