For more than twenty years, alexandre bertrand was a daguerreotypist and then a photographer in the capital. He is said to have founded his house in 1846 at the age of 24. After having worked 6 bis quai des orfèvres, he moved in 1851 to 34 rue dauphine. Later he boasted of having made more than 80, 000 daguerreotype portraits. The musée d'orsay preserves several portraits of him.
