Large glazed ceramic bowl in a free and asymmetrical shape, featuring a graphic decoration that combines a bright yellow crackled glaze with two large curved brown-black ribbed relief patterns. With its very dynamic design, contrasting palette, and sculptural treatment, this piece is fully part of the revival of French ceramics from the 1950s-1960s. It evokes the spirit of the creations of Georges Jouve, Pol Chambost, and Roger Capron in Vallauris while retaining the very identifiable character of Elchinger's productions from Soufflenheim. I would date this bowl to around 1955-1965, probably during the period of Fernand Elchinger (1911-1975). Fernand has been managing the factory since 1936 and has profoundly modernised its production, especially after the war. Signed underneath the base "Elchinger" and "France". Dimensions: 40 × 33 × 13 cm. In perfect condition.
