Painting depicting a lively street scene in Bahia, Brazil. It features a sunlit square with a colonial church with a white steeple, colourful yellow and pink façades, passers-by in white attire, a fruit vendor in the foreground, and election posters on a wall. The tropical light is beautifully rendered with contrasting shadows and a deep blue sky. Signed and located at the bottom left: "Bahia, 1955 — Pierre Lagache". Pierre Lagache is a French painter and engraver, known notably for his collection "Popular Atmospheres of Paris" (1944), a set of 22 original etchings with a preface by the writer Pierre Mac Orlan, published in a very limited edition (100 copies). A travelling artist, he stayed in Brazil where he painted scenes of daily life in Bahia. Grey wooden frame with lavender blue matting. Condition: see photos. Reference: 422.
