This rare Liberty sofa from the 1960s is a refined example of Dutch modernist design. Designed by Rob Parry for Gelderland, the sofa combines a slender stainless steel frame with warm wooden armrests and cleanly upholstered seat and back cushions. The design is light and architectural, yet comfortable and inviting. The open construction gives the sofa an elegant, almost floating presence, while the restrained use of materials reflects the functional clarity characteristic of Dutch design from this period. Gentle ageing of the upholstery adds depth and authenticity, enhancing the sofa’s calm, timeless character. A balanced piece that works equally well as seating and as a sculptural element within an interior. About the designer. Rob Parry (1925–2016) was one of the leading figures of Dutch modernism.
