1960s 3-Seater sleeping sofa by Gijs van der Sluis for Gispen, Netherlands

An iconic 3-seater sofa / sleeping bench designed by gijs van der sluis, manufactured by gispen in the netherlands around 1960. This beautiful piece has a high quality black lacquered metal base in rectangular finish. The seating depth can easily be extended by raising and pulling out the seat, after which it can be used as a sleeping bed. This is an innovative piece and a true icon of dutch mid-century design! The additional armrest pillow is a lovely compliment to the design. Both the sofa and pillow are newly upholstered in high quality grey fabric. The sofa remains in very good, vintage condition with new upholstery and only minor wear to the frame consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina.
